Manchester United treble winner Ronny Johnsen was a special guest at the club’s training ground as they prepared to take on Southampton in the Premier League.

The 49-year-old was a teammate of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before he left for Aston Villa in 2002 and was back at the training ground as United trained on Friday.

Phil Jones, who has missed the last few games through illness, was one of a number of players spotted arriving at Carrington on Friday morning alongside Alexis Sanchez and Scott McTominay.

Angel Gomes, who travelled with the first team squad for the away trip to Crystal Palace, was also seen and there’s a chance he could be involved as Solskjaer confirmed there’s still up to eight players who could miss the game.

“It’s the last session today but we’re not going to take any risks, maybe Anthony, but it might just be a few more days before he’s ready so probably the squad will look similar to what it did at Wednesday,” Solskjaer about United’s injury crisis.

“You do have a plan but then you get suspensions, injuries, that one injury or one suspension might change the whole dynamic.

“It’s a matter of seeing who’s available now, Wednesday night at Selhurst Park is a tough one and then Friday morning still so not too much recovery time. We’ll make our minds up tonight.”
